We are only 2 days away from the beginning of the Slice, Dice & Spice NY Pro-Am Cook Off. On Monday, October 19th, 9 area chefs and their amateur teams will compete to win. There will be only 3 teams to move on to the finals scheduled at the New York Wine & Culinary Center in Canandaigua next Sunday, October 25th. Chefs representing restaurants from Ontario County and Buffalo will face off to win a chance to become the 2009 Slice, Dice & Spice NY Champion! It’s a competition not to miss and both events are FREE to attend! What could be more fun? It’s all about the food and wine from the Finger Lakes, come and visit and savor the flavor of the Finger Lakes. The competition is about to begin! Nine Restaurants representing the Finger Lakes and Buffalo are about to face off in the 2009 Slice, Dice & Spice NY Pro-Am Cook Off. The Finger Lakes restaurants include: The Brown Hound Bistro, The Vines at Naples Hotel, Warfield’s Restaurant, Doc’s Seafood and Steakhouse, Geneva on the Lake, and The Inn on the Lake. New to this year’s competition are these Buffalo restaurants: Juniper, O’Connell’s American Bistro and Trattoria Aroma . These participating restaurants focus on using local ingredients and serving New York State Wines!
These New York State chefs are sharpening their knives and local foodies are honing their culinary skills in anticipation for this year’s Slice, Dice and Spice NY culinary competition! Get your aprons on and your spatulas ready ~ 9 Chefs and their teams are now ready to compete in the 2009 Slice, Dice & Spice NY Cook Off in Canandaigua, NY beginning on Monday, October 19th.
Each team will create a meal using common “Market Basket” ingredients and one secret ingredient. All of these ingredients will come from New York and showcase the vast amount of products that can be found in the area. Along with creating a appetizer, main course and dessert – the teams will also have the task of pairing each of their dishes with a wine from one of the wineries along the Canandaigua Wine Trail.
Three winning teams will be selected and then they will prepare for the Final Cook Off on Sunday, October 25th at the New York Wine and Culinary Center located in Canandaigua. It’s a fun afternoon of competition, live music and more than 30 tasting booths. Mark your calendars for this unique event.

Slice, Dice & Spice New York is a Progressive Taste Off that is running from May 1 to October 25 highlighting the culinary and agricultural assets of the Finger Lakes. It’s a showcase of people, foods, farms and restaurants. The final competitions are about to begin and you won’t want to miss it!
On October 19th, nine top chefs from Finger Lakes and Buffalo restaurants will each team up with a group of amateur foodies and compete against each other in an Iron Chef-like event to be held at the New York Wine & Culinary Center located in Canandaigua. The ensuing competition will feature many Finger Lakes and New York State culinary assets. The teams will create a meal using common “Market Basket” ingredients and one secret ingredient. All of these ingredients will come from New York and showcase the vast amount of products that can be found in the area. The competing chefs come from top restaurants located in Naples, Clifton Springs, Geneva, Canandaigua and Buffalo! Meet the Chefs! The meals they prepare will then be judged by a panel of food experts and the top three chefs of each heat and their teams will move on to the Slice, Dice and Spice finals on October. 25th.

At the final event, there will be more than 30 tasting booths from local and regional restaurants and food producers along with live music.

Attention all Foodies! We’ve got food, wine and six months of fun for you here in the Finger Lakes. The Slice, Dice and Spice NY farm market Ultimate Burger Challengeis coming to the Finger Lakes. In August, there will be local chefs paired with amateur “foodies” to create the best Finger Lakes burger and side, using fresh and local ingredients available from local farm markets. There will be three competitions, one at each of these local farm markets, Canandaigua on August 8th, Victor on August 12th and Geneva on August 13th. The best part? The day of the farmer’s market competition, each pro-am team will be given a budget and a time limit for shopping, preparing and plating a Finger Lakes inspired meal. The team will also have a ‘market basket’ of additional spices, and other ingredients to help with the process; maybe a cheddar out of Waterloo or a BBQ sauce from Rochester—all will be locally made or grown in the Finger Lakes.
Following all 3 farm market competitions, the recipes will be re-created and posted to the Slice, Dice and Spice website and YOUcan vote online for The Ultimate Finger Lakes Burger! The winning recipe will be posted to the Slice, Dice and Spice website and the winning pro-am team will receive tickets to the Finals Iron-Chef Competition at the New York Wine & Culinary Center in October. Summer has arrived in the Finger Lakes and what is more fun than eating outdoors and enjoying your favorite wine and food. The Finger Lakes has many great places to dine outside. Whether you prefer dining lakeside with spectacular views or something a little more secluded away from the hustle and bustle of the summer season, come and experience the great local cuisine in the Finger Lakes.
There are three different ways to enjoy dining outside in the Finger Lakes: lakeside dining, dining on an outdoor deck or dining in a garden. Here are a few suggestions:
The Inn on the Lake located on the north end of Canandaigua Lake, has a covered outdoor patio for dining, as well as the Sandbar for more casual and leisure dining. Come by car or on your boat. On Seneca Lake in Geneva, you’ll find the Pier House Restaurant at the Ramada Inn, you’ll dine under umbrella covered tables on an outdoor patio and enjoy the spectacular view of Seneca Lake. At Belhurst, also located on Seneca lake, the Stonecutters Lounge provides a a unique, relaxing dining experience, with outdoor tables overlooking Seneca Lake, and there’s even an outdoor fire-pit. The perfect place to relax for the afternoon and evening. There are also docking spaces if you come by boat to Belhurst.
If your preference is more for those little hideaways that serve great food, don’t miss the Brown Hound Bistro . Brown Hound is located in a 100-year-old house nestled in the Bristol hills. The deck provides a European countryside ambiance with fresh flowers, evening candlelight, local artwork, and both rustic and colorful accents. Nearby is The Lodge at Bristol Harbour Resort with a spectacular view from its covered outdoor patio. Not only good food, but many claim this to be the best lake view in the Finger Lakes. Other Finger Lakes outdoor deck/patio dining can be found at Simply Crepes in Canandaigua; Doc’s Lakeside Restaurant and also Rheinblick German Restaurant located in historic downtown Canandaigua.
You will thoroughly enjoy dining in this park-like setting at the Warfield’s Garden in Clifton Springs. The English garden has a brick walkway which surrounds a pond, filled with oriental goldfish and water fountain. Gas lamps illuminate the gardens as well as the stone benches. You can also enjoy a quiet lunch in the gardens at the High Noon Cafe located on the grounds of Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park. A perfect day to tour the beautiful gardens at the mansion and then relax and enjoy a bite to eat at the cafe.
